  1. You are so creative in so many ways..love the sepia tones as well..go perfectly with the era. I also love your writing style..very personable just like your sitting in front of me sharing. One day Erinn & Katie will just LOVE to hold and cherish these journals..X

  2. Actually I loved this calender..I enjoyed looking at the pics and comments from each day and didn’t find at all the quote around the left side distracting. Being a visual person myself it’s like I’m in a candy store..XX

  3. Hi Alison… I found you on a Flickr group and – curious as I am – came to see your blog and more of your work. I love your art journal pages, they have the same feel as my ‘Chronicles’ (a weekly art journal of mine). I wish you a nice weekend!

  4. Hi Alison,
thanks for stopping over at my blog and giving me your address here! Lovely art journaled pages…I will certainly visit you again! have a great weekend, xo natalea

  5. An impressive share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a little analysis on this. And he in fact bought me breakfast because I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If possible, as you become expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It is highly helpful for me. Big thumb up for this blog post!

  6. Heh Alison, love your blog! So creative! So inspiring! Feels very yummy and is a great example of feminine creativity and manifestation! Yum! Love Delicia

  7. What a marvelous page and a great idea to create a similar piece on canvas. No wonder friends asked for a piece highlighting their ‘self’, it’s truly beautiful!

  8. Wonderful, wonderful…Alison- what a great inspiring creation you have shared with all of us. Thank you, thank you, love and blessings…the pages look so fabulous! loved reading about how it happened!

  9. Oh wow, I love the colours and all the writing – the photos bring back memories of my own schoolyears, the colours and clothing from the seventies: marvelous!

  10. all those blessings and pestilence adds up to the tapestry of life’s riches (but given my drathers I’d rather have more blessings)

  11. Thank you for sharing so much of your creative and spiritual process as you created this journal spread. I had to chuckle at the Gods bickering amongst themselves comment – so true!

I do agree with the quote though as if we see ourselves as an extension of the divine, then all our emotions and experiences – even the uncomfortable and painful ones – are an expression of all that is divine/godly. Not always the greatest comfort when in the midst of trauma, but light cannot exist without dark and all of that 🙂

  12. Welcome to the blog-o-sphere, Alison! Lovely to meet you. I’ve just read through all your posts – WOW! You’ve created some stunning pages – very inspiring. Happy ARTventures! 🙂

    • Thanks for all your comments Suzana! Amazing that you are a soulcollage facilitator too, you must have trained with Karen in Melbourne I guess!

  13. Beautiful art journal page Alison! Your daughter looks/sounds like a strong woman, and the two of you look gorgeous together. Big hug from Holland!

  14. Your words really make the painting for me. It always amazes me how when we interpret an abstract-looking image, the image becomes the story and then it is difficult to see it in any other way.

  15. I used to give myself heaps for spending time art journaling. I couldn’t figure out what it was useful for!
Now I realise that it nourishes my soul, and what can be more valuable than that?

  16. I love this page! And I agree, the housework always comes after art. After all, the dust will be there today and tomorrow, but the artistic idea might me lost, so always give priority to art! 🙂

  17. Hi, fellow student from 21 Secrets. I commented on your look-a-like page from Traci. I love this inspiration page you did. Teesha is good. She has inspired me too. I could not get any of the videos to download tonight from the workshops so I began looking at blogs. Keep it up. You are really good. It is exciting to see all this talent among all of you.

  18. Love your article! I agree with you, one of the best ways for artist to learn a new skill or technique is directly from those who have come before us. As long as we credit them and don’t seek to make a profit, I think it is an effective strategy to build confidence. I really like your honesty on this page. So many times, especially for those of us beginning to create, we question our talent and significance. I look forward to watching you find your own style and voice!

  19. I’m taking 21 secrets, too. Did you do Martha Lever’s credit card flowers? I love that one. Haven’t done Tracy’s class yet. Love your page!

  20. I have been thinking for nearly 40 years about how we don’t know how good of a housekeeper Einstein was. People talk and talk about him, but no one says, “Oh, yeah, he was good at physics, but he wasn’t a very good housekeeper.” No one cares. We may be remembered for our art or our careers, but cleaning house is not a very enduring legacy.

  21. This is wonderful! Nice Work! Is this a workshop on line or in person. How I wish I had workshops here in Orlando for art journal but there aren’t any. Maybe just going to art classes will open the horizon any way. Thanks for sharing.

  22. hi Alison, great blog, gorgeous pages, love your use of colours
wanted te become a follower, but it didn’t let me be one… will try again later
    hugs

  23. That is an amazing Traci Bunkers page! I have her book too and love her style. I just ordered some of her stamps. I also beat myself up about copying but then someone pointed out to me that all the great masters started by copying other masters, and we all practice other people’s music and don’t think a thing of it. (-: I am in Dina Wakely’s class and taking an abstract painting class by Flora Bowley (book: Brave, Intuitive Painting)…she is in Australia as we speak I believe. 3 more school days (I am a teacher) and then let the paint fly! Sorry to be so chatty (coffee this morning) but so enjoyed your discussions and your blog.

  25. Very nice! I like your blending and the background. I have not yet mastered either one of those very well.

  26. Love, love, love……I love how you “floated” the words window to window like coming into the mind and allowing them to freely go out….

  27. Alison, another heart inspired piece, this time from your inner child. If I may dare say so, I believe your inner child knows exactly who she sings to. He gave you this wonderful talent and I sure wish you could teach me. 🙂
    God Bless!

  28. Very lovely! Your journaling is so tidy and neat. I like your style. Hopefully, mine will look neat some day. Feel like I am so in the learning stages. Ugh!!!

  29. Ah, one of my favourite songs. I love the way you have painted the tree, the cool and warm colours really give it interest. So glad that you drew your own mandalas. And fabulous how the collaged image echoes the tree. xx

  30. Love the colors and composition. Thanks for sharing the details of how you did everything! PS… I am a member of Year in the Life of an Art Journal as well!

  31. This gave me a giggle Alison – and is all-too-familiar ie the distress re one’s saggy bits, followed by a brisk reminder to self that there is still plenty to be grateful for

  32. Oh the same with my face ,I did notice it and then my daughter said to me ,mum will my face do that , crap , now I constantly am aware of it ,I put weight on in my face would u believe, now I’ve lost some weight and am scared if I loose on my face it will make it worse…totally symphathize , and I can’t spell either lol….

  34. hi Alison, lovely pages and I loved the traveljournal you made about your trip to Holland, the country where I live. Enjoyed reading it….
have a wonderful Christmas and a very artsy 2013

    hugs

  35. Hi Alison! I love these pages. I know what you mean about the blog. I have a blog that no one comments on and I have one follower. I tried to get a few friends to follow but I don’t think they even know how. LOL! But I don’t really care. It’s just there for me to once in a while post something. You are very talented. I get easily discouraged with my art journals because I cannot really draw or paint a figure or picture. I cannot often think of a theme and I find it hard to portray feelings in an art journal. I can easily write in a lined composition book and doodle but to take a blank page and try to put personal thoughts with pictures is very challenging for me. Please keep sharing your blog.

    • I read your comment and I felt like it could have been me writing it. I’d be happy to come by and visit your blog. What is your blog address? I also totally feel the same way you do when it comes to art journaling. I have all these ideas in my head, but can’t seem to get past the blank page. If I do, I’m my own worst critic. I’m sure we are both better than we give ourselves credit for. 🙂

  36. I enjoyed your posts. You do beautiful work. I try journaling, but get stuck moving past the page. I’m not very artistically inclined. I started getting a handle on it, then I had some health related issues and lost my mojo. I haven’t been on my blog in months either. I am techno challenged. I need to get back at it again. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us. HAPPY EASTER!!!!!

  37. Didn’t we come up with a plan for the ‘too beautiful’ spread?
Look at your colours. 6 spreads in very similar palette. It looks beautiful, but I wish we had time to do a week on outside your colour comfort zone before you go.
This week we are going to make a big stamp! I think you will love it.
I will miss your lovely presence in class.

  38. Hi! I live close to Byron too and love your blog! So inspiring!
Can you tell me where you do the art journalling class as I would be really interested in having a go after seeing yours’!! Thanks 🙂

  39. Fantastic Alison…really beautiful page. Yes, you definitely are a fair, wise and supportive ‘Queen’.

Loved the steps & you had me in the palm of your hands right from ‘ a funny fluffy orange thing on her head’

    Bravo…Satisha

  40. You never cease to amaze me with your AWESOMENESS Alison. Really lovely blog post…hope we see more of these more often!

  41. Beautifully done Ms Ali, your a veritable plethora of creativity and I like that you are able to see both sides, helpful as a mediator. Love that song to go with the illustration, love the work look forward to more journalling with you and the ladies in the near future. xx Pru. Happy Capricorn Birthday wishes to you and I will see you on the 17th.xxx

  42. Alison, this is incredible! Thank you for sharing your journey and process. What a great to see your steps and thought process. I hope that you continue to work and explore in your journal.

  43. I enjoyed reading the whole process, the light, the expansiveness, the harbour of ultramarine blue ocean, the rock pools of Sydney, (my original home for 25 years also) so inspiring Ali, what a great iconic Australian Artist to copy, and replicate in your art journal…I look forward to viewing more of your musings, paintings and creations. xx

  44. What a fabulous spread, Alison! I LOVE the use of stencils here, especially since I just received YESTERDAY a batch of new ones from Stencil Girl. Your pages have really inspired me to get started!

  45. Hi Alison! Thank you so much for sharing. I love your journal and pages. I am also taking this course from Kelli and started 3 pages already, but they are far away from completion stage. In your post you gave me an excellent idea. I am going to have 3 weeks vacation in March and I was not planing to take my journal with me, only some colorpages. When I saw your picture from New Zealand it was an Epiphany moment for me. Actually I CAN take my journal. I had to be careful choosing paint, tools and number of images, but I CAN do it. And I still have 3 weeks to carefully curate the supplies I am taking. Thank you so much for your post and idea. Wish your creative process will give you a lot of pleasure and will open the new horisonts. Love. Julia
